Primary Resource Base Teacher (ASD/SLCN) – Surbiton

About the role

This position is based in a vibrant mainstream primary school in Surbiton, delivering specialist support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social Communication needs. As the Primary Resource Base Lead, you will manage a small, nurturing class while fostering inclusion into mainstream settings.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver a highly personalised curriculum adapted for ASD and communication difficulties.
• Collaborate with mainstream teachers to arrange and support step‑out opportunities.
• Lead the implementation and monitoring of EHCP targets.
• Work closely with the SENCO, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists to embed specialist strategies.
• Create a low‑arousal environment using visual schedules, sensory breaks, and positive behaviour support.
• Supervise and mentor a team of specialist Teaching Assistants.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with proven experience in a UK primary setting.
• Deep understanding of Autism (ASD) and Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN).
• Experience in a Resource Base or SEN unit is highly desirable.
• Ability to balance sensory‑based learning with formal academic instruction.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills for working with parents and external professionals.
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and be on the Update Service.

Required skills

• Familiarity with visual schedule systems and sensory regulation techniques.
