Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (Part‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a pupil with additional needs in a primary school in Plymouth. The role is part‑time, covering one full day and four mornings each week, and focuses on a non‑verbal child with global developmental delay.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with special educational needs.
• Adapt activities and learning materials to meet the individual needs of the pupil.
• Support development of communication skills and engagement for a non‑verbal child.
• Encourage the pupil’s social, emotional and educational development.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach.
• Promote a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs.
• Experience supporting children with SEMH, Global Developmental Delay, or non‑verbal communication needs.
• Patient, nurturing and resilient approach to challenging situations.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children and staff.
