Principal Bridge Engineer – £65/hr Contract (Scotland)

About the role

We are looking for a Chartered Principal Bridge Engineer to lead the delivery of a major portfolio of bridge and highway structures projects across Scotland. The role will be based flexibly in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Perth and will involve technical leadership on design, assessment and asset improvement schemes within long‑term Scottish highways frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for bridge design, structural assessment and asset improvement projects.
• Manage and deliver bridge and highway structures workstreams within the Scottish highways framework.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, ensuring best practice and compliance with industry standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

Required profile

• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with ICE or IStructE.
• Extensive experience in bridge engineering and highway structures projects.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery and mentor junior staff.
