Principal Engineer – Suspension

About the role

Lotus UK Manufacturing is seeking a Principal Engineer – Suspension to lead the design and delivery of world‑class suspension systems for its high‑performance sports cars. Reporting to the Chassis Chief Engineer, you will own the technical development of suspension components from concept through production, ensuring they meet quality, cost, function and timing targets.

Key responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of assigned suspension systems and components throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Lead the suspension engineering team, coordinating cross‑functional work with Vehicle Dynamics, Safety, Quality, Software, ADAS, Manufacturing, NVH and Homologation.
• Define system‑level targets, specifications, standards and engineering procedures.
• Track progress against programme schedules, drive corrective actions and authorise release of 3D data, 2D drawings and supporting documentation.
• Develop and manage technical documentation such as Engineering Specifications, DFMEAs, DVPs and Design Concept Sheets.
• Validate designs through CAE simulation, rig testing and vehicle‑level testing, identifying failure modes and implementing countermeasures.
• Support supplier selection, maintain Bills of Material in Lotus PLM, and mentor team members.

Required profile

• YA degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in suspension system definition, design and verification for high‑performance vehicles.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage complex projects across multiple functions.
• Strong analytical skills with a track record of delivering robust, cost‑effective solutions.
