Prison Support Officer – HMP Long Lartin

About the role

The Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Long Lartin plays a vital part in the day‑to‑day running of a busy prison. You will join a supportive team, handling a mix of desk‑based duties and physical tasks to keep the establishment safe and efficient.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct security searches at the gate and escort vehicles across the prison grounds.
• Manage deliveries, supervise visitor access and monitor phone calls.
• Operate CCTV systems and respond to incidents as required.
• Perform lifting, carrying and walking duties associated with the role.
• Work a variety of shifts, including weekends and nights, ensuring reliable attendance.

Required profile

• Good communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Sound judgement, common sense and a strong team‑player attitude.
• Willingness to work fixed shift patterns and travel to a rural location.
