Process Chemist

About the role

We are seeking a Process Chemist to join our Materials Science Laboratory in Harpenden. Working within a multidisciplinary Process Development team, you will support the scale‑up of sustainable carbon‑conversion technologies and contribute to the design of future commercial manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day laboratory operations, maintaining safety standards and efficient workflow.
• Prepare, operate, monitor and clean chemical reactors and related process equipment.
• Support planning and execution of experimental programmes alongside engineers and scientists.
• Collect, analyse and communicate experimental data to drive process development.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of laboratory and pilot‑scale equipment.
• Operate analytical instruments such as gas chromatographs and colourimeters.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, implementing improvements.
• Maintain laboratory documentation, including SOPs, risk assessments and COSHH records.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in laboratory or pilot‑scale chemical process operations.
• Experience developing and following SOPs in a chemical processing environment.
• Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
• Ability to work safely in a laboratory setting and follow strict health‑and‑safety procedures.
