Process Operator – Wastewater Treatment

About the role

We are looking for a Process Operator to join United Utilities on a permanent basis at our Leigh site. The role involves operating and maintaining wastewater treatment assets safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while supporting the community.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor a range of biotreatment processes to meet UWWTD and MCERTS standards.
• Carry out physically demanding tasks outdoors, often working independently.
• Execute planned operational and maintenance activities and respond to reactive work arising from asset or process failures.
• Raise and manage work orders, record daily activities in corporate scheduling and work-management systems.
• Use operational data to track performance, identify under-performance and report exceptions.
• Escalate operational issues and risks to the Process Controller or Production Manager.
• Maintain a Licence to Operate and adhere to health-and-safety legislation.

Required profile

• Ability to work alone for extended periods, using sound judgement and practical decision-making.
• Strong situational awareness with a focus on safety and compliance.
• Clear communication skills to liaise with Process Controllers, Resource Coordinators, Field Service Engineers and external contractors.

Required skills

• Experience with biotreatment processes and wastewater treatment operations.
• Proficiency in sampling, readings and process analysis.
• Knowledge of UWWTD and MCERTS regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with corporate scheduling and work-management systems.
