Production Operative – Goods In/Out

About the role

We are seeking a reliable, safety‑conscious Production Operative to manage the receipt, storage and dispatch of materials and finished goods at our Vetchberry Steels site in Birmingham. You will operate forklift trucks and overhead cranes, ensuring efficient movement of products while maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy and housekeeping.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, check and accurately book incoming deliveries against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
• Inspect incoming materials for quality and compliance.
• Safely store, stack and organise materials within the warehouse and designated storage areas.
• Maintain accurate stock records in the computerised stock control system.
• Support stock accuracy through regular checks and effective inventory management.
• Perform general warehouse duties, upholding 6S principles and high housekeeping standards.
• Handle materials safely to prevent damage and comply with Health & Safety procedures.
• Process customer and internal orders accurately, meeting all specified requirements.
• Promote continuous improvement to maximise productivity, efficiency and waste reduction.
• Operate Forklift Trucks and overhead cranes safely and efficiently.
• Support loading and unloading activities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of goods.

Required profile

• Reliability and a strong safety‑first attitude.
• Proactive approach and ability to work well within a team.
• Previous warehouse or materials handling experience.

Required skills

• Valid Overhead Crane licence.
• Valid Forklift Truck licence.
• Computer literacy for stock control systems.
