Production Support Technician

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Production Support Technician to join a leading electronics manufacturing company at Milton Park, Abingdon. The role provides first‑line technical support, troubleshoots product failures and helps maintain high‑quality production processes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain deep knowledge of products and manufacturing processes.
• Provide first‑line technical support across all product ranges, triaging and repairing units to component level.
• Investigate production test failures, conduct root‑cause analysis and support corrective actions.
• Maintain, calibrate and commission assembly and test equipment according to maintenance schedules.
• Analyse production data (test failures, rework trends, downtime) to identify improvement opportunities.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement projects using structured problem‑solving tools (5 Whys, Ishikawa, 8D).
• Support introduction of new products and process changes, ensuring robust transition to production.
• Create clear technical reports on product and process issues.
• Mentor apprentice technicians and production operators.
• Ensure safe working practices, including ESD control.

Required profile

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) and an HNC or similar engineering qualification.
• 3–5 years experience in electronics manufacturing, test or repair.
• Strong fault‑finding capability to component level on electronic assemblies.
• Ability to read BOMs, circuit diagrams, schematics and technical documentation.
• Good electro‑mechanical knowledge, supported by qualification or experience.
• Understanding of production test equipment and automated test environments.
• Experience with Lean tools (5S, process mapping) and structured problem‑solving techniques.
• Background in ISO 9001 or regulated manufacturing environments.
• Confident soldering and rework skills.
• Ability to interpret production performance data and identify trends.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
