Project Design Engineer – Product Design

About the role

We are seeking a Project Design Engineer to join a specialist lighting and engineering solutions provider in North London. The role focuses on designing and developing innovative products from concept through to production, supporting a fast‑moving manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of a range of lighting‑related products and structures.
• Create 3D models, detailed drawings and prototypes using Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Translate concepts into manufacturable solutions, managing BOMs and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with clients, cross‑functional teams and external suppliers to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
• Provide technical guidance, support testing, verification and validation activities.

Required profile

• HNC/HND/BTEC/NVQ/Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Design or a related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in industrial product design within a manufacturing setting.
• Proven ability to take products from concept to production while meeting quality and cost targets.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and passion for innovative design.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Inventor and AutoCAD (or equivalent 3D CAD tools).
• Experience in sheet‑metal fabrication and material selection.
• Ability to create and maintain BOMs and technical documentation.
