Prototype Technician – Hands‑on Electronics & 3D Printing

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Prototype Technician to join a specialist engineering company developing next‑generation unmanned vehicle and advanced prototype systems. You will work closely with engineers and designers in a varied workshop environment, building, testing and refining experimental products.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, wire, solder and test electrical and electronic prototype systems.
• Operate, maintain and optimise 3D printing equipment and printed components.
• Support electrical, motor and system testing activities, recording and reporting results.
• Build and modify scaled RC model aircraft and prototype platforms.
• Work with balsa, plywood, foam, CNC‑machined and laser‑cut components.
• Assist with the assembly and set‑up of test benches and development rigs.
• Maintain workshop organisation, documentation and ongoing prototype development activities.

Required profile

• Practical experience with wiring, cabling, soldering and electronic or mechanical assembly.
• Hands‑on workshop, prototype or engineering technician background.
• Experience with RC model building or hobby engineering is beneficial.
• Familiarity with 3D printing and prototype manufacturing processes.
• Ability to commute to Southampton.
