Pupil Support Worker – Alternative Provision

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Pupil Support Worker to join an Alternative Provision setting in Accrington. The role starts in September 2026 and involves supporting 11‑16‑year‑old pupils who have been excluded or struggle to access mainstream education.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support inside and outside the classroom, adapting approaches to individual learning and emotional needs.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies, de‑escalation techniques and restorative practices.
• Build trusting relationships and act as a positive role model to develop pupils’ self‑esteem and life skills.
• Collaborate with class teachers, SENDCo and external agencies to deliver IEPs and EHCP targets.
• Monitor and record pupil engagement, behaviour milestones and provide feedback to leadership and families.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people, preferably in Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN school, youth work or residential care.
• Calm, resilient and empathetic nature with strong de‑escalation abilities.
• Excellent communication and active listening skills.
• Level 2 or 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning, Youth Work or Health and Social Care is advantageous.
• Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check and be registered on the Update Service.

What we offer

• Full‑time, Monday‑Friday role (8:30 am‑3:30 pm, term‑time only).
• Daily rate of £98.89‑£115.89, dependent on experience.
