Qualified Social Worker – Learning Disabilities

About the role

Our client, Somerset Council, is seeking a qualified social worker to join their Learning Disabilities team. This full‑time, temporary position involves managing a diverse caseload and working closely with multi‑disciplinary partners to ensure safe, person‑centred support.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ongoing assessments of allocated cases, evaluating risk and promoting independence.
• Manage a caseload of varying complexity, responding to referrals from multiple sources.
• Carry out statutory reviews, risk assessments, and community care planning in line with legislation and policy.
• Engage with service users who may be at risk or refusing services, using sensitive negotiation.
• Handle crisis situations promptly, applying relevant legislation and resources.
• Assess carers’ needs, including young carers, and develop appropriate care plans.
• Prepare and present reports, assessments, and statements to support decision‑making.
• Maintain high‑quality client records and facilitate needs‑led services with partners across health, social care, and voluntary sectors.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with experience in multi‑disciplinary social care teams.
• Proven partnership working with social care, health, voluntary agencies, and education.
• Strong knowledge of Social Work England guidelines, relevant legislation, and issues affecting the learning disabilities client group.
• Fluent English as required by immigration regulations.
• IT competence for effective data entry, manipulation, and retrieval.
