Quality Manager - Geochemistry Laboratories

About the role

SGS, a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is looking for a Quality Manager for its Geochemistry laboratories in Orkney. The post leads, plans, organises and executes the quality management system in the short and medium term, implements the quality control strategy for the Analytical Services laboratory divisions and supports the QHSE Manager and line management.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the quality control strategy for Analytical Services laboratory divisions in line with corporate strategy
• Assist the QHSE Manager in strategic accreditation processes and assist line management with ISO 17025 implementation
• Evaluate improvement systems and tailor procedures and processes for reliability and maintainability
• Support laboratories with corrective and remedial actions and complaints, and ensure they are closed within agreed timeframes
• Provide training on quality and technical matters and create quality awareness across all staff
• Assist with management reviews and evaluate proficiency tests
• Handle all SANAS accreditation and compliance matters (as per the Nominated Rep SANAS document R-03)
• Follow all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system and perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the direct line manager

Required profile

• Post-graduate degree or diploma, with a Quality Control and/or Quality Assurance qualification
• At least 5 years of experience in an administrative or reporting position and 5 years in Analytical Services
• Solid management or senior supervisory experience
• Full knowledge of the Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO 17025), internal auditing, LIMS (CCLAS) and sample preparation and fire assay procedures
• English spoken, written and understood
• Willingness to work shifts and overtime when necessary
