Receptionist – Outpatients Service

About the role

The role provides a professional front‑of‑house service for the Outpatients Department of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, part of UCLH. As the first point of contact, the Receptionist ensures a welcoming, efficient experience for patients, visitors and clinical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Greet and check‑in patients, arrange and confirm clinic appointments.
• Handle telephone enquiries and direct calls to appropriate departments.
• Enter and maintain accurate patient data across hospital information systems.
• Protect patient confidentiality and adhere to Trust data‑security policies.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, supporting consultants, junior doctors, allied health professionals and nursing staff.
• Respond to queries calmly and compassionately, contributing to a high standard of patient care.
• Uphold the Trust’s core values and smoke‑free policy throughout daily operations.

Required profile

• Experienced receptionist with initiative and proactive work style.
• Ability to work under pressure, multitask and manage own workload.
• Sensitivity to patients’ needs and commitment to improving the patient experience.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.

Required skills

• Strong IT proficiency for hospital information systems and data entry.
• Effective telephone handling and customer‑service skills.
