Registered Nurse – Outpatient Services

About the role

The Registered Nurse – Outpatients will join the multidisciplinary team at The Balfour, delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care to the community of Orkney. You will work in a modern NHS facility that integrates inpatient, emergency, outpatient and diagnostic services, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients, relatives and carers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide evidence‑based nursing care in line with the NMC Code and local policies.
• Take charge of the shift in the senior nurse’s absence, coordinating nursing activities and resources.
• Supervise, teach and assess student nurses, junior colleagues and unregistered staff when on duty.
• Contribute to staff development and leadership within the nursing team.
• Maintain accurate documentation and uphold infection prevention and control standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (or awaiting NMC registration) with experience in acute and/or medical nursing.
• Current statutory training and a clear understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and observational skills.
• Ability to work proactively, use initiative and support multidisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Knowledge of confidentiality, infection prevention and control, and safe clinical practice.
