Repairs Manager

About the role

The Repairs Manager will lead the delivery of a responsive housing repairs service for a large local authority, ensuring compliance, safety and high customer satisfaction. This senior leadership position oversees teams, contractors, budgets and service improvement programmes across a substantial housing portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead operational delivery of the responsive repairs service, meeting statutory obligations and service standards.
• Manage supervisors, trade operatives and support staff delivering repairs and maintenance.
• Oversee budget management, resource allocation and procurement to achieve value for money.
• Monitor and improve performance metrics such as first‑time fix rates, customer satisfaction and turnaround times.
• Embed robust health and safety practices across all operations, including contractor management.
• Drive service transformation initiatives, including digitalisation, sustainability and customer engagement.
• Conduct audits, inspections and quality assurance checks to maintain high workmanship standards.
• Collaborate with Housing Management, Asset Management and other stakeholders for effective service delivery.
• Represent the service at senior management meetings, resident forums and working groups.
• Lead emergency response coordination for major incidents affecting the housing stock.

Required profile

• Strong experience managing property repairs and maintenance within the public sector.
• Previous trade or technical background.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and deliver cost‑effective solutions.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to property management.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
