Reporting & Analysis Assistant

About the role

The Reporting & Analysis Assistant will join SCC's finance team in Birmingham, supporting the preparation of accurate financial information and routine reconciliations. This entry‑level position offers exposure to month‑end processes, management reporting, and basic financial analysis, making it ideal for someone beginning a finance career.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, ensuring data accuracy and timely submission.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis by gathering data, updating templates and performing basic checks.
• Complete routine reconciliations and flag any discrepancies for senior review.
• Provide administrative support for internal and external audits, including file retrieval and simple schedule preparation.
• Collaborate with finance colleagues on process improvements, updating spreadsheets, templates and reporting tools.
• Help maintain compliance with financial policies and procedures, escalating issues when necessary.
• Perform ad‑hoc financial analysis such as data extraction, summary preparation and basic reporting.

Required profile

• Studying towards an AAT qualification or interested in starting a finance qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA optional).
• Basic understanding of financial reporting or accounting principles.
• Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn analytical techniques.
• Curious mindset with interest in financial data and identifying anomalies.
• Ability to organise workload, meet deadlines and work collaboratively.

Required skills

• Competent use of Microsoft Excel (formulas, sorting, filtering).
• Familiarity with finance or ERP systems (e.g., D365) – helpful but not essential.
