Research Engineer – Metrology & NDT

About the role

We are seeking a Research Engineer to join our Metrology and Non‑Destructive Testing team. The position focuses on delivering technical solutions for projects across the Metrology Technology Centre, collaborating with multiple technology departments and industrial customers.

Key responsibilities

• Independently deliver technical deliverables for assigned projects.
• Act as Technical Lead on smaller projects, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, budgets and timelines.
• Conduct in‑depth research, concept generation, detailed design and produce technical drawings.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and support commissioning activities.
• Identify, specify and integrate new technology capabilities, advancing projects to TRL/MRL 3+.

Required profile

• Degree‑level engineer, scientist or mathematician (BEng/MEng/MSci/MSc) in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related field.
• Strong understanding of dimensional metrology, measurement uncertainty, accuracy, repeatability and traceability.
• Experience with contact measurement techniques such as CMMs or precision gauging.
• Knowledge of GD&T application in engineering drawings and inspection.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and technical communication skills.
