About the role
We are seeking a highly organised Rostering Co‑ordinator to join the Children’s Services Internal Provisions team at Devon County Council. The role ensures safe, effective staffing across the county’s children’s homes, matching the right staff with the right skills at the right time to support high‑quality care.
Key responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day coordination of staffing rotas across multiple children’s homes.
- Monitor staffing levels, availability and attendance, responding quickly to sickness or vacancies.
- Allocate and redeploy staff to maintain safe staffing levels and service continuity.
- Work closely with Registered Managers to resolve rota challenges and support operational delivery.
- Analyse workforce data (capacity, absence, trends) to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure rotas meet Ofsted requirements and staffing ratios.
- Provide clear advice and updates to managers on staffing availability and risks.
- Support contingency planning and emergency staffing responses.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of workforce planning processes.
- Liaise with external agencies for staff bookings and coordination.
Required profile
- Thrives in a fast‑paced operational environment and can manage competing priorities.
- Experience of rostering or scheduling staff against service need.
- Ability to manage workloads in a real‑time, customer‑focused setting.
- Strong organisational, prioritisation and problem‑solving abilities.
- Calm and resilient under pressure with excellent communication skills.
- Confidence in building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.
