Safety & Risk Consultant

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Safety & Risk Consultant to join its Safety and Risk Methodologies (S&RM) team, which provides independent safety assessment and advice on Design Basis Analysis (DBA), Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSA), Severe Accident Analysis (SAA) and Internal and External Hazards Analysis in safety cases. The team has deep experience in defence nuclear and civil nuclear safety cases and is open to candidates at all experience levels, from entry to senior, with responsibilities tailored to each person.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) and Internal Technical Assessment (ITA) of customer safety case documents, giving balanced, proportionate advice on time, cost and quality.
• Engage with customer safety case specialists to inform INSA/ITA.
• Present the S&RM team's view at internal and customer meetings.
• Help produce and advise customers on the adequacy of their safety management arrangements.
• Produce and deliver safety case training courses.
• Interface with specialists from other technical disciplines to check the appropriateness of the safety case.
• Work in line with business requirements for health, safety, environment, security and quality, and seek continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Degree (Level 6 minimum) in Science or Engineering, or equivalent.
• Clear and concise technical writing skills.
• Effective communication skills, able to discuss safety case topics with subject matter experts from other disciplines and give professional independent challenge or advice.
• Experience of applying some of the listed safety techniques.
• Knowledge of safety case structures and staged safety case campaigns (PSRs, PCSRs etc.).
