School Business Manager

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑established school in Wigan to recruit an experienced School Business Manager. The role starts in September and offers the chance to influence the strategic and operational direction of the school while supporting pupils and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial management, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
• Oversee day‑to‑day finance operations, payroll and procurement.
• Support the Headteacher with strategic business planning and resource allocation.
• Manage HR administration, recruitment processes and personnel records.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, health and safety regulations and school policies.
• Administer contracts, service level agreements and supplier relationships.
• Develop and lead finance, administration and site teams.
• Provide governors with financial reports and business updates.
• Monitor income streams and identify cost‑efficiency opportunities.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a School Business Manager, Finance Manager or similar role in an educational setting.
• Strong understanding of school finance, budgeting and compliance.
• Experience managing staff, HR and operational functions.
• Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
• Proactive, solution‑focused attitude.
