School Caretaker (Full‑Time) – Primary School in Hackney

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join a friendly primary school in Hackney on a full‑time basis. You will be responsible for keeping the school environment safe, clean and fully operational for pupils, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out day‑to‑day maintenance and minor repairs across the school premises.
• Open and lock the school, ensuring security procedures are followed.
• Monitor health and safety standards and report any issues.
• Oversee external contractors and ensure work is completed to standard.
• Set up rooms for school events and activities.
• Work closely with the senior leadership team to maintain high‑quality facilities.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Manager or Facilities Assistant, preferably in a school setting.
• Good practical maintenance and DIY abilities.
• Strong understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive problem‑solving attitude.
• Commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
