School Cook Manager – Markyate Village School

About the role

HCL is seeking a dedicated Cook Manager to lead the kitchen at Markyate Village School and Nursery. Working 27.5 hours per week on a term‑time basis, you will ensure children receive fresh, nutritious meals while upholding the highest standards of safety and hygiene.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day kitchen operations and supervise the catering team.
• Prepare and serve balanced meals that meet dietary and allergen requirements.
• Manage stock, ordering, and budgeting for the kitchen.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
• Record HACCP logs, temperature checks and audit documentation.
• Foster positive relationships with staff, pupils and the wider school community.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification (mandatory).
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 (desirable).
• Strong organisational and planning abilities.
• Experience leading a kitchen team in a fast‑paced environment.
