School Facilities Manager (Caretaker)

About the role

We are looking for a proactive School Facilities Manager (Caretaker) to keep the school environment safe, secure, clean and well‑maintained for pupils, staff and visitors. The role works closely with the Site Manager and follows a rotating weekly shift pattern, providing a reliable presence on‑site from Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities

• Open and close the school premises according to the assigned shift, act as key holder and respond to emergency call‑outs.
• Carry out basic maintenance, repairs and general caretaking duties, including litter picking, minor fixes and routine inspections.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds, reporting any hazards or defects promptly.
• Support health and safety compliance by identifying risks and assisting with corrective actions.
• Liaise with contractors, service providers and delivery personnel, monitoring activities to ensure site procedures and safety standards are followed.
• Conduct regular security checks and report any concerns to protect the school’s assets.

• Reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently.
• Proactive, organised and adaptable in a busy school setting.
• Good communication skills for interacting with staff, visitors, contractors and external agencies.
• Physically fit and willing to perform manual duties.
