About the role
Zaizi is establishing a secure facility to support its work with the UK Ministry of Defence and intelligence agencies. The Security Controller will be the primary authority for all physical and personnel security matters, ensuring compliance with government standards and enabling the delivery of sensitive projects.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the appointed Security Controller responsible to the Board for day‑to‑day security operations.
- Manage receipt, storage, distribution and disposal of classified documents and assets in line with government regulations.
- Prepare for and oversee external audits from MOD Defence Equipment & Support and other accreditors; maintain Security Risk Management documentation and complete yearly crypto audits.
- Control facility access, vet and escort visitors, contractors and international guests according to IVCO protocols.
- Oversee the lifecycle of UK Security Vetting (UKSV) and other clearances for staff and associates.
- Deliver initial security briefings and ongoing after‑care training, ensuring compliance with the Official Secrets Act and Security Policy Framework.
- Monitor insider risk, conduct assessments and liaise with HR and line management.
- Serve as the main liaison for government security officials and lead incident response reporting to the Contracting Authority and ISAC.
- Advise senior leadership on security implications of new contracts, office moves or organisational changes.
- Collaborate with the IT Manager to align physical and cyber security measures and support ISO 27001 / Cyber Essentials Plus implementation.
- Provide security capability statements for bids requiring facility clearances.
Required profile
- British National citizenship.
- Proven experience as a Security Controller or Deputy within a UK Defence or National Security “List X” environment.
- Demonstrated experience with MOD/DE&S audits, security vetting processes and insider‑risk management.
- Strong understanding of government security policies, Official Secrets Act and Security Policy Framework.
Required skills
- ISO 27001 knowledge.
- Cyber Essentials Plus familiarity.
