SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary & Secondary

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in South Bristol, supporting both primary and secondary pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. The role is term‑time only, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑3:30 pm, and offers a daily rate of £90‑£105.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils across primary and secondary phases.
• Build trusting relationships to promote confidence, emotional regulation and independence.
• Assist with learning activities, behaviour management and social development.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external specialists.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work or similar settings.
• Calm, patient, resilient and passionate about supporting additional‑needs learners.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) and right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Basic understanding of SEMS, autism, ADHD and trauma‑related behaviours.
