SEN Base Teacher – Runcorn

About the role

Randstad Education is looking for a resilient and passionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Base Teacher to lead a specialist classroom in Runcorn. You will design and deliver highly individualised curricula for pupils with complex learning barriers, autism, and SEMH needs.

Key responsibilities

• Create tailored, differentiated lesson plans aligned with each pupil’s EHCP.
• Use communication tools such as PECS, Makaton and visual timetables to support non‑verbal learners.
• Lead a team of specialist SEN Teaching Assistants and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
• De‑escalate challenging behaviour using positive intervention frameworks.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent specialised teaching qualification.
• Significant experience in an SEN school, resource provision or specialist SEN base.
• Deep understanding of severe learning difficulties, autism (ASD) and speech & language needs.
• Team Teach or positive handling training is desirable.
