SEN Teaching Assistant – ASD Specialist School

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join an ASD specialist school in Lewisham. The role starts in September and offers a full‑time, temporary position with the possibility of permanent employment for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with Autism and complex special educational needs.
• Assist pupils in developing confidence, independence and everyday life skills.
• Support behaviour management using calm and consistent strategies.
• Help with personal care and emotional regulation as required.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff.
• Create a safe, structured and positive learning environment.

Required profile

• Calm under pressure and emotionally resilient.
• Patient, reliable and able to maintain attendance and punctuality.
• Passionate about making a difference for young people with ASD.
• Willing to commit to a long‑term role and demonstrate reliability.

Required skills

• Experience supporting children or young people with Autism, learning difficulties or complex needs.
• Background in residential support, youth work, or SEN teaching assistance.
• Relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs, Psychology, Education or related field (preferred).
