SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH (KS2‑4)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 in a specialist school in Blackburn. The role starts in September 2026 and offers a pathway from a temporary contract to a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with challenging behaviours and complex emotional needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students.
• Create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.
• Manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviours effectively.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• A calm, patient and consistent demeanour.
• Resilience in challenging situations.
• Proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils.
