Senior Accounts Payable Assistant

About the role

The finance team of a well‑established organisation in Leeds is looking for a Senior Accounts Payable Assistant on a fixed‑term basis until December. Working three days a week on‑site in a hybrid model, you will own the end‑to‑end AP process in a high‑volume environment where accuracy and strong supplier relationships are critical.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices in line with company policies and code them to the correct legal entities, departments and GL accounts.
• Manage invoice approval workflows, follow up on outstanding approvals and resolve discrepancies, duplicates or anomalies.
• Maintain supplier master data, perform verification checks and control bank details.
• Respond to supplier and internal queries promptly and professionally.
• Reconcile supplier statements, resolve outstanding items and monitor aged payables.
• Support new supplier onboarding in line with procurement and control policies.
• Apply anti‑fraud controls such as independent callback procedures and escalate issues as needed.

Required profile

• Significant experience in accounts payable, preferably in a complex, high‑volume setting.
• Strong organisational ability and capacity to work independently.
• Excellent attention to detail and confidence in challenging processes.
• Effective communication skills and a proactive, solutions‑focused attitude.
• Comfort working with finance data and supporting month‑end close activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word).
