Senior Charge Nurse

About the role

The Senior Charge Nurse will lead the Arran Nursing Team, covering the island’s acute hospital and community services. This permanent, full‑time position offers a supportive environment within NHS Ayrshire and Arran, where you will help deliver safe, caring and person‑centred care for the island’s residents and seasonal visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and management for the nursing team across acute and community settings on Arran.
• Ensure delivery of high‑quality, safe and effective patient care in line with NHS values.
• Oversee governance, clinical standards and professional support for locality teams.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners to plan staffing, resources and service improvements.
• Mentor and develop nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and a degree qualification.
• Minimum five years post‑registration experience, including at least three years in a senior leadership role (Band 6 Senior RN/Charge Nurse).
• Proven experience managing and leading nursing teams.
• UK driving licence (essential for island travel).
• Commitment to the NHS Scotland values of caring, safety and respect.
