Senior Claims Assessor – Hybrid (Bristol)

About the role

We are seeking a senior claims assessor to join our FCA‑regulated insurance business. Working on a hybrid basis from Bristol, you will evaluate income protection, critical illness, disability and death claims, ensuring fair and efficient decisions while meeting performance targets.

Key responsibilities

• Make admittance, medical and decline decisions within authority and provide recommendations.
• Proactively manage a nominated portfolio of claims, liaising with claimants and gathering necessary evidence.
• Develop and refine the company’s claim philosophy and protocols.
• Provide technical support to risk claims administration teams.
• Meet agreed service levels, turnaround times and quality audit targets.
• Lead projects to improve claims management effectiveness.
• Conduct technical audits, coach assessors and ensure compliance with claim standards.

Required profile

• Previous experience assessing Income Protection, Waiver of Premium, Critical Illness, Permanent Total Disability or Death claims.
• Excellent telephone manner with the ability to handle distressed or angry customers.
• Strong Microsoft Office and general PC skills.
• Proven ability to make admittance, decline and medical decisions within authority.
• Experience coaching and mentoring less‑experienced assessors.
• Flexibility, strong planning and organisational abilities.
• Excellent written communication, especially detailed letters.
• Relevant general education background.
