Senior Communications Officer – Interim (Hybrid)

About the role

The Local Authority in Cheshire is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer on an interim basis. This hybrid role will lead high‑profile communications and PR campaigns across key council services, ensuring effective engagement with residents, partners and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and advise on complex strategic communications and PR campaigns.
• Manage multiple concurrent campaigns, meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
• Collaborate with internal clients and external partners to set measurable objectives.
• Evaluate campaign effectiveness and report on outcomes.
• Commission creative communications materials, publications and digital content.
• Identify and manage reputational risks, responding to sensitive issues.
• Provide strategic communications advice to senior stakeholders.
• Support the development and execution of overall communications strategies.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering communications and PR campaigns within a complex organisation.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑management abilities.
• Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to identify and mitigate reputational threats.
• Experience commissioning creative communications products and publications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid understanding of strategic communications and its operational delivery.
• Local government or public‑sector experience is highly advantageous.
