Senior EC&I Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior EC&I Engineer to lead the design, installation and maintenance of automated door and access control systems for a key client in Bolton. The role is technically focused, covering a wide range of safety‑critical doors in nuclear, defence, transport and other high‑hazard environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead EC&I design activities, producing wiring schematics, control panel layouts, cable schedules and detailed drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations and safety analyses using SISTEMA to verify PL/SIL compliance.
• Support site installation, commissioning, fault diagnosis and ongoing maintenance.
• Prepare functional design specifications, project scopes and technical documentation.
• Act as the central liaison between mechanical engineers, project teams, subcontractors and clients.
• Ensure designs meet Machinery Directive, UK Supply of Machinery Regulations and relevant British/ISO standards.
• Review and approve EC&I drawings, raise and resolve non‑conformance reports.

Required profile

• Qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or similar).
• Proven experience with automated doors, access systems or comparable electro‑mechanical equipment.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control circuits and fault‑finding techniques.
• Ability to work independently and deliver compliant EC&I solutions.

Required skills

• EC&I design and documentation.
• AutoCAD 2D and/or Inventor 3D.
• SISTEMA safety analysis.
• Engineering calculations (manual and software‑based).
• Interpretation of electrical schematics and drawings.
• Familiarity with BS EN 16005, BS EN 12453, BS EN ISO 13849‑1/‑2, BS EN 60204 and BS 7671.
