Senior Ecologist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to join a growing team in Cambridge, supporting major development projects across the East of England. You will lead ecological surveys, produce technical assessments and help shape mitigation strategies for protected species.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver protected‑species surveys for infrastructure and development schemes.
• Produce technical reports such as PEAs, EIAs, HRAs, BNG assessments and CEMPs.
• Conduct biodiversity net gain assessments, including baseline surveys and metric calculations.
• Obtain licences for species such as bats, great crested newts, dormice, badgers and water voles.
• Assist with tender preparation and fee proposals.
• Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering a wide range of ecological surveys and interpreting results for planning and mitigation.
• Experience with protected‑species licensing and Ecological Clerk of Works responsibilities.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with strong time‑management skills.
• Full UK driving licence, business insurance and willingness to travel throughout the region.
