Senior Engagement Officer (1025)

About the role

Transport for Wales is looking for a Senior Engagement Officer on a 24-month fixed-term contract. The post co-develops, manages and delivers a strategic programme of engagement projects supporting major transport developments, leading on engagement and building links with groups so they can help shape public transport projects.

Key responsibilities

• Manage specific engagement projects across Wales and Borders, ensuring stakeholder and community input shapes major transport projects.
• Identify stakeholder and community groups by mapping and networking them to TfW-led projects such as Metro, Bus Refranchising and Active Travel design.
• Support the Engagement Manager by building and maintaining relationships with regional stakeholder groups.
• Develop activity plans to gather local input and feed it into detailed designs, multi-modal integration and feedback reports.
• Develop and coordinate Advisory Panels and Forums, and create engagement plans for specific groups to encourage sustainable travel.
• Resolve escalated cases, identify solutions and facilitate meetings; work with the sustainability team and external partners on sustainability and legacy projects.
• Handle contact and complaints, respond to stakeholder requests and report progress, issues, risks and achievements against KPIs to the Engagement Manager.
• Own the plan for public events, managing risk assessments and coordinating project team support.

Required profile

• Demonstrable experience in a local public-facing role delivering engagement projects.
• Strong experience managing public engagement and/or consultation for major enhancement projects.
• Credible communication skills and evidence of building sustainable working relationships.
• Experience delivering positive outcomes for stakeholders through relationship ownership and problem solving.
• Understanding of public sector engagement and the ability to be responsive and reactive.
• Welsh language skills are not essential but would strengthen an application.
