Senior Finance Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Finance Assistant to join our busy finance team in Bath. You will play a pivotal role in managing income processes, customer accounts, reconciliations and financial controls within a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Raise and process high‑volume sales invoices and credit notes.
• Review and approve sales orders, ensuring correct VAT treatment and coding.
• Maintain accurate customer account records.
• Monitor invoice workflows and follow up outstanding approvals.
• Reconcile income transactions, customer accounts and bank accounts.
• Process refunds and maintain related controls and registers.
• Manage credit‑card income receipts and related financial postings.
• Investigate and resolve account discrepancies and unapplied receipts.
• Support internal stakeholders with invoicing and finance system queries.
• Deliver guidance and training on finance processes and systems.
• Assist with BACS receipt allocations and income administration.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, AML requirements and payment security standards.
• Identify unusual transactions and escalate concerns where required.

Required profile

• Previous Sales Ledger or Accounts Receivable experience.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience working with finance systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Proactive problem‑solving approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
• Desirable: AAT qualification or studying towards an accounting qualification.
• Desirable: Experience with an integrated finance system.
• Desirable: Experience training or supporting colleagues.
• Desirable: Knowledge of financial controls and compliance requirements.
