Senior Indirect Tax Specialist

About the role

Welltower is seeking a Senior Indirect Tax Specialist to lead indirect tax compliance, reporting and advisory across its real‑estate and healthcare portfolio. This is a hands‑on, office‑based position that requires deep technical knowledge of UK indirect taxes and the ability to support finance, legal and transaction teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and submit UK VAT returns, CIS reports and Stamp Duty/SDLT filings.
• Conduct VAT compliance reviews, balance‑sheet reconciliations and specialist calculations such as partial exemption and capital goods scheme.
• Monitor filing deadlines and ensure timely submissions to HMRC.
• Maintain robust VAT governance, controls and documentation, supporting tax control frameworks and process improvements.
• Identify VAT risks and recommend mitigation steps; assist with internal audits and HMRC enquiries.
• Provide day‑to‑day VAT and indirect tax advice to finance, AP/AR, legal, commercial and operational teams.
• Review contracts, invoices and transaction flows for indirect tax implications.
• Advise on VAT treatment of property, construction, corporate and operational transactions, as well as CIS and Stamp Duty matters.

Required profile

• Strong technical knowledge of UK indirect taxes (VAT, CIS, SDLT, Stamp Duty).
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work cross‑functionally with finance, legal and transaction teams.
• Senior‑level experience in indirect tax compliance and advisory.
