Senior Machine Learning Scientist – Single Cell

About the role

Relation is a TechBio company developing transformational medicines by integrating single‑cell multi‑omics, functional assays and machine learning. As a Senior Machine Learning Scientist you will lead the creation of generative and predictive models that capture cellular decision‑making, directly influencing experimental biology and therapeutic discovery.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement generative modelling approaches that learn intervention effects from diverse single‑cell perturbation data.
• Develop models focused on generalisation, counterfactual prediction and experimental design, moving beyond simple correlation.
• Collaborate with experimental teams to iteratively design and validate computational hypotheses, selecting high‑signal experiments.
• Evaluate models for causal coherence, mechanistic fidelity and practical utility in guiding real‑world interventions.
• Communicate findings clearly to interdisciplinary colleagues and stakeholders.

Required profile

• PhD in machine learning, computer science, statistics or a related quantitative field.
• Strong methodological foundations in modern ML, especially for high‑dimensional structured data.
• Proven ability to train models at scale and optimise distributed training pipelines.
• Experience turning ideas into production‑ready implementations that respect the underlying data.
• Comfort working with noisy, real‑world scientific datasets.
