Senior Management Accountant

About the role

AFR Consulting is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to act as a Finance Business Partner, supporting divisional directors with insightful reporting and analysis. The role is based in Wigan and will play a key part in driving financial performance and strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the month‑end process and produce a full management accounts pack.
• Reconcile balance sheets, investigate discrepancies and maintain the fixed‑asset register.
• Prepare VAT returns, bank reconciliations and support the annual audit.
• Produce variance, margin and sales performance analysis to inform decisions.
• Develop budgets and forecasts for the group companies and coordinate the annual report and subsidiary statutory accounts.
• Partner with senior management to identify cost‑saving opportunities, efficiency improvements and process enhancements.
• Participate in the upcoming upgrade of the accounting system and contribute to finance‑system projects.

Required profile

• Qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA (or equivalent) and several years of experience in management accounting.
• Proven ability to provide narrative insight to non‑financial stakeholders.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
• Desire to progress within a succession‑focused finance function.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
• Experience using financial reporting systems and accounting software.
• Advanced Excel or equivalent spreadsheet skills.
