Senior Rock Engineer – Geotechnical Design

About the role

Join COWI as a Senior Engineer specialising in rock engineering and engineering geology. You will lead the delivery of complex geotechnical projects across the UK, ensuring high‑quality calculations, drawings and technical reports that support sustainable infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Assess new and existing rock engineering and geological projects.
• Lead project delivery and support risk management through interdisciplinary reviews.
• Oversee production of geotechnical calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports in line with programme schedules.
• Review and validate reports and calculations for accuracy.
• Collaborate with other design disciplines to maintain overall design integrity.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards via the Integrated Management System.
• Participate in resolving technical issues as they arise.

Required profile

• Chartered status (CGeol, CEng or equivalent).
• Proven experience in a design environment on complex rock engineering or geological projects, UK or international.
• Site exposure is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of rock engineering software such as RS2, RS3, UDEC and 3DEC.
• Ability to plan, supervise and design project elements applying current standards and best practice.
• Broad geotechnical design experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication, with experience preparing project reports.
• Full UK driving licence.
