Senior Service Designer – Public Sector (IR35)

About the role

We are seeking three experienced Senior Service Designers to join multidisciplinary teams delivering complex public‑sector transformation programmes. The roles are contracted inside IR35, hybrid (1‑2 days a week in London), and start as soon as possible.

Key responsibilities

• Lead service‑design activities within a multidisciplinary delivery team.
• Map current‑state journeys, operational processes, hand‑offs, pain points and dependencies across users, policy, technology and data.
• Develop future‑state journeys, service blueprints, workflows and service concepts.
• Translate research findings into clear user needs, design opportunities and actionable recommendations.
• Plan and facilitate workshops, co‑design sessions, focus groups and stakeholder discussions.
• Create visual and written artefacts that communicate complex service problems and opportunities.
• Prototype and test service concepts at an appropriate level of fidelity.
• Identify risks, constraints and dependencies affecting service feasibility and delivery.
• Champion accessibility, inclusive design and user‑centred ways of working.
• Communicate confidently with senior stakeholders and support evidence‑based decision‑making.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior service designer working on public‑sector or government projects.
• Strong service‑design and human‑centred design capability.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams alongside researchers, product managers, analysts, architects and engineers.
• Good understanding of Government Digital Service principles, the Service Standard and the government service delivery lifecycle.
• Ability to lead workshops, synthesize complex information and produce clear artefacts.
