Senior Social Worker – Mental Health

About the role

Our client, Cardiff Council, is seeking a Senior Social Worker to join its Mental Health team. You will support individuals, families and carers to overcome major difficulties, enhance independence and ensure their voices are heard.

Key responsibilities

• Review and update knowledge of legal, policy and procedural frameworks.
• Work with individuals, families, carers and communities to assess needs, risks and options.
• Plan, implement and review interventions, including child protection and vulnerable adult safeguarding.
• Collaborate with statutory and independent agencies to deliver a multi‑agency approach.
• Manage workload, prioritise cases and use professional judgement.
• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions and contribute to service outcomes.
• Participate in duty rotas, supervision, appraisal and team meetings.
• Record unmet or inappropriate needs in line with Council policy.

Required profile

• Professional competence in social work as defined by the Code of Practice.
• Strong understanding of legislation, policy and statutory guidance.
• Ability to empower clients and support informed decision‑making.
• Commitment to multi‑agency collaboration and safeguarding.
