Senior Software Engineer Full Stack

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer you will be responsible for sustaining existing systems and delivering new capabilities for a central government customer. The role combines hands‑on development of backend services and modern single‑page applications with technical leadership and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, debug, test, document and deploy production‑ready software across Java backend services and React/TypeScript front‑ends.
• Design and implement REST APIs and ensure they align with architectural direction.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines, code‑review standards and security scanning processes.
• Write unit and integration tests and support test‑automation initiatives.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to technical decision‑making.

Required profile

• Significant hands‑on experience delivering complex changes in production environments.
• Proven ability to work within Agile delivery practices and iterative development.
• Willingness and ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (minimum 5 years UK residency).

Required skills

• Java (8, 17, 21) and REST API development.
• Modern SPA frameworks: React, TypeScript, Angular or Vue.
• CI/CD tooling (Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo) and security scanning.
• Unit and integration testing, design patterns, and code‑review standards.
• Optional: C/C++, Perl, Python, Bash scripting, integration patterns (adapters, saga).
