Senior Subcontract Buyer - Heavy Civil Engineering

About the Role

Join a well-established heavy civil engineering contractor as a Senior Buyer, playing a pivotal role in supporting major infrastructure projects across Devon. Based in Exeter, you will lead the procurement of significant subcontract packages, ensuring excellence in delivery and strategic alignment with project goals.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic procurement plans in collaboration with project and commercial teams.
• Manage the full tender lifecycle for major civil engineering packages, including preparing tender lists and managing schedules.
• Conduct rigorous due diligence on subcontractors and perform detailed value analysis on responses.
• Lead complex negotiations and chair supplier meetings to secure optimal terms and conditions.
• Ensure strict procurement governance, documentation, and control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support project teams regarding subcontractor performance, issue resolution, and seamless onboarding.
• Maintain robust document control and support the management of framework agreements.
• Represent the company professionally at client and supplier events as required.

Candidate Profile

• Proven track record in subcontract procurement specifically within the heavy civil engineering sector.
• Extensive experience managing large-scale packages such as reinforced concrete, structures, major earthworks, and drainage.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform complex value engineering and cost analysis.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship management capabilities.
• Must be eligible to work in the UK and able to obtain BPSS/SC security clearance.
