Senior Town Planner – Bedford

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Town Planner to join a well‑established, multidisciplinary planning consultancy with a growing presence in Bedford. The role involves shaping key projects from feasibility through to planning submission and implementation, delivering solutions that meet policy, environmental and stakeholder requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning strategy and development management for a variety of project types, including new site proposals, specialist developments and community infrastructure.
• Manage planning applications, negotiate with local authorities, handle appeals and prepare technical submissions.
• Provide expert planning advice, interpret policy, assess planning risk and propose mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with design, environmental and technical teams to deliver holistic client solutions.
• Build and maintain client relationships while contributing to business development in the Bedford region.

Required profile

• Chartered status with the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) or demonstrable eligibility for chartership.
• Significant experience in a planning consultancy or equivalent advisory environment.
• Proven track record of leading planning submissions and engaging with local planning authorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a solution‑focused approach.
