Senior Underwriter - Professional Indemnity

About the role

MS Amlin is looking for a Senior Underwriter for its Professional Indemnity book in London. The role is responsible for underwriting and developing a portfolio of international professional indemnity business, taking the lead on specific client portfolios in line with the Casualty business plan. It sits in a small, dynamic team within a long-standing participant in the Lloyd's casualty market.

Key responsibilities

• Generate and manage business on a client relationship basis within agreed portfolios and markets.
• Develop and maintain broker relationships, new and existing.
• Write risks within agreed parameters, making sound long-term underwriting decisions.
• Deliver client portfolio strategies and the business plan, aligned to profitable growth.
• Lead the strategic direction of the portfolio and its designated elements of the strategy and business plan.
• Analyse the market to identify new business, products and clients, building a business case for each.
• Oversee underwriting performance within agreed authorities and ensure underwriting controls are managed.
• Take part in product forums and client segmentation, and drive the client experience by overseeing issues, complaints and claims.
• Work with other Casualty teams and central functions such as Claims.
• Act in line with the Business Ethics policy, Conduct Rules and Values, and represent the business externally.

Required profile

• In-depth knowledge and strong experience of the professional indemnity market.
• Current or previous experience in UK or international markets, with a good working knowledge of the London Market and broker channels (essential).
• Good understanding of risk, regulatory and legal requirements.
• Strong understanding of client intimacy and how it shapes portfolio strategy.
• Sound business acumen, analytical skills and numerical aptitude.
• Strong networking, influencing and negotiating skills, and excellent communication.
• An appetite for building a differentiated professional indemnity proposition.
