Senior Water Consultant – Flood Risk Specialist

About the role

Join BWB Consulting’s Manchester team as a Senior Water Consultant on an interim basis until May 2027. You will apply your hydrology, hydraulic modelling and flood risk expertise to a varied portfolio of projects, ranging from private developments to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.

Key responsibilities

• Support delivery of hydrological assessments, hydraulic modelling and flood risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to Environmental Statements and planning documentation, developing practical flood alleviation and watercourse diversion solutions.
• Prepare clear technical reports for planning, design and construction phases.
• Collaborate with clients, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure coordinated project outcomes.
• Assist in meeting programme, budget and quality targets while mentoring junior colleagues.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and UK flood risk and drainage policy.
• Experience delivering projects with awareness of programme, budget and quality expectations.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
• Willingness to share expertise and support junior team members.

Required skills

• Hydraulic modelling software: Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW.
• Hydrological analysis tools: Flood Estimation Handbook methodologies, ReFH2, WINFAP.
• GIS software: QGIS.
• InfoWorks ICM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Causeway Flow (beneficial).
• Microsoft Office suite.
