Senior/Principal Ecologist

About the role

Origin Enterprises’ Brooks Ecological team is looking for a senior‑level ecologist to lead and deliver complex ecological surveys, assessments and mitigation across development, infrastructure, conservation and biodiversity projects throughout the UK and Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver complex ecological surveys, including habitat and protected‑species work.
• Provide technical expertise, manage projects and client relationships, and mentor junior staff.
• Conduct Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and protected‑species surveys (bats, GCN, reptiles, badgers).
• Prepare high‑quality ecological reports such as Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and mitigation plans.
• Ensure compliance with wildlife legislation, planning policy and best‑practice guidance.
• Liaise with stakeholders including clients, planning authorities and conservation bodies.

Required profile

• Significant consultancy experience in ecological surveying and advice.
• Demonstrable ability to produce clear, robust technical reports.
• Thorough knowledge of wildlife legislation and the planning system.
• Full range of survey skills covering habitats and protected species.
• Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver contracts on time and within budget.
• Client‑focused approach with commercial awareness.
• Full driving licence.
